Experience Traditional Turkish Drinks During Your Holidays To Turkey
Turkey is a beautiful land on the Mediterranean with most of the area in the Anatolian region of West Asia. Blessed with a perfect climate, amazing sights, magnificent architecture, vibrant nightlife, and friendly locals, Turkey is one of favorite destinations of travelers.
But the attractions, climate, night entertainment, and locals are some of the things that make Turkey an interesting land to visit. When spending holidays to Turkey, you must try out locally blended drinks. Indeed, tasting their beverages constitutes a part of experiencing Turkey's culinary culture.
1. Ayran
This is a famous drink made of water and yogurt and served without sugar. At times, a little salt is added. The blend is very pleasant and refreshing particularly if taken during hot weather.
2. Kahve
Kahve, or Turkish coffee, is served in small cups. The beverage is tasty but very strong-tasting. Usually, kahve is served black. Nevertheless, if the brew is too strong for you, you can add some milk or sugar in it.
3. Cay
Cay is classic Turkish tea, the hot beverage of choice of many Turks; in fact, Turks are heavy tea drinkers. Check out their special elma cay (apple tea) or ada cay (sage tea). Note that if your tea is blended by locals, your drink may be stronger than you are used to. Dilute it a little with hot water or milk.
4. Boza
Another refreshing drink to be drunk during hot weather, boza is a cold, thick stuff that originally came from Central Asia. The drink is made from fermented bulgur wheat in which sugar and water are added. You can purchase commercially made boza, placed in plastic bottles, in supermarkets. However, they are sweeter and less dense than the classical sour and thick boza.
5. Sahlep
Perfect for cold, winter evenings, sahlep is a classic hot drink in which milk, sugar, and orchid root are blended. Often, the drink is garnished with cinnamon. It goes very well with sweet pastries.
6. Red poppy syrup
This classic drink is made out of water, sugar, and red poppy petals. It is very pleasant and is favored by children.
When enjoying cheap holidays to Spain, Turkey, Greece, or any other country in the planet, make sure to have a taste of their local drinks.
