Nowadays it is possible to drive a Ferrari (and plenty of other extraordinary supercars) at professional motor racing tracks all over Spain. The Circuit of Cataluña near Barcelona as well as el Jarama in Madrid are two of the most popular circuits because of their rich histories in racing and convenient locations. But there are plenty of other options out there as well that are well worth investigating, as you will see in this article!
The National Circuit of Cataluna, Montmelo
Without a doubt, The Circuit Of Montmeló is the most well-known circuit in Spain. It has played host to the Spanish Grand Prix since 1991 and recently the track has been used as a winter testing ground for Formula One racing teams.
A variety of unique challenges await the drivers including a mix of fast and slow corners, slopes and climbs, and tough breaking sections.
If you want the experience of driving on truly top level racing track and to follow in the footsteps of some of the great Formula One drivers of the past and present, then Montmeló should undoubtedly be your number one choice.
Circuit of Jarama
Jarama's circuit, which is located not far from Madrid, also boasts a history to be proud of. It hosted the Spanish Grand Prix eleven times between 1967 and 1981. World famous drivers of Formula One history such as Nicki Lauda, Gilles Villenueve won many races here. Jarama features tight twisty corners and numerous inclines which make it one of the most challenging circuits in Spain.
The 'Pegaso Slope' and 'Bugati Drop' are well-known names in Spanish motor sport and at Jarama you get to experience them for yourself. To drive this circuit well, you`ll need to have a strong nerve, determination, and obviously a little bit of skill won’t go amiss!
Circuit of Cheste
This particular track was named after Ricardo Tormo, a motorcycle racing superstar from Valencia. The moderate winter climate, and the thrilling, quick track make Cheste a favorite location for teams testing Formula One cars in the off season.
Cheste offers a well balanced mixture of fast and slow curves as well as a long straight of 876 meters. It's well-known too for being one of Spain's few circuits that run counterclockwise. You are certain to have a driving experience that is both tricky and satisfying!
The circuit at Navarra.
The youngest track in Spain is the circuit of Navarra near Los Arcos, having opened in the year 2010. It has already played to host to a number of premium events such as the Super League Formula. The on-site facilities are outstanding as you might expect from a modern, newly constructed track.
There are 13 curves, five left and eight right, and the 800m straight offers the perfect opportunity to really put your foot down like you mean it!
The circuit at Kotarr
The circuit of Kotarr, near Burgos opened its doors in 2008 and can assume numerous different designs, according to kind of race and the vehicles involved. One other noteworthy characteristic is that Kotarr is the only Spanish racing track where it is possible to drive in icy, rainy weather.
The longest version of the track consists of a good variety of quick and slow curves – fifteen in total – and the layout enables some enjoyable, intense driving. There are also quite a few challenging chicanes and long straights which are great for putting your foot to the floor.
The Circuit at Jerez.
Another racing track with an illustrious history is Jerez, having played host to the Spanish Grand Prix between 1986 and 1990. It has built up a deserved reputation since its debut for having one of the quickest and best tracks in the country.
A broad, quick circuit, you will require guts and lots of skill to handle notorious corners such as Sito Pons or Alex Crivillé. The track at Jerez is also comparatively level and harbours no blind corners, making it popular with racers!
If you would like something original and exciting to do while on vacation in Spain, why not take your dream car for one or two laps? Your own private Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche or even genuine F1 car can be booked through any one of many established online businesses.
